The bodies that we live in are a gift from God, but we recognize that, as we age, that “house” deteriorates.  Thus, many people exercise to try to keep it as fit as possible, so that it can continue to function as well as possible.  Even God, Himself, says that physical, bodily, exercise has some benefit.  In an even greater way, the same principle applies to our spiritual function.  We need to “exercise” our spirit to stay fit and healthy, spiritually.  That spiritual exercise comes in the form of such disciplines as Bible reading/study/application and prayer.  That’s right…I used the word “discipline.”  It’s the Greek word “gymnadzo.” As you can see, it’s where we get our word “gymnastics.”  Disciplines have to be developed…worked at diligently and, at times, with great struggle…but the benefits are well worth the effort!  So, I strongly encourage you to “hit the gym”…both physically…but, of far greater, even eternal importance…spiritually!

1 Timothy 4:7-8

7 Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; 8 for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

“The word “discipline” has disappeared from our minds, our mouths, our pulpits, and our culture. We hardly know what discipline means in modern American society. And yet, there is no other way to attain godliness; discipline is the path to godliness.” ~ Jay Adams

The Lord bless you and keep you…
