This world is full of people who want to give. Unfortunately, the motivation for their giving is for what they can get out of it…everything from a substantial tax write-off to a very significant pat on the back. That may technically qualify as “giving” but there’s really no heart in it. True giving, as Jesus defined it, meant that the giver was personally sacrificing to give the gift. It cost the giver and there was no expectation for anything in return. That’s not just giving…that’s loving.

John 15:12-13
