Just dirt.  God made the first man, Adam, out of dirt…the dust of the ground. Of course, dirt, moistened, becomes clay and some pretty amazing things can be molded by a potter out of clay.  Remember when we were in grade school art class and the teacher introduced us to clay?  Most of us tried to make “something” and, after “it” was fired in the kiln, we’d take it home and proudly give “it” to our Moms. Mine would usually sit “it” somewhere and keep buttons and pins in “it.”  In the Bible, God is the Potter and we are the clay, and when God forgives and saves us, through His Son, Jesus, He begins to re-make us…and to conform us…lovingly and patiently, into the image of His Son, in order to use us for His glorious purpose.

Genesis 2:7

Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Psalm 103:13-14

13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. 14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.

Romans 8:28-29

28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son.

“If a life has been marred through sin and rebellion, there is always the forgiveness of God and the opportunity to start afresh! The Potter is willing to forgive and go to work again on the vessel, for He longs to make it ‘meet for the Master’s use.'” ~ Warren Wiersbe
