The life of a disciple of Jesus is a life of learning…being a good student, obeying and imitating our Savior and Teacher, Jesus. That’s what the word “disciple” means…”learner.” Being a willing, submissive student never comes easy because of our sin nature, but take heart…we have the best Teacher in the world, and He has given us His indwelling, Holy Spirit…the Perfect Helper…to overcome our weaknesses…to pass every test…to keep The Faith…and finish the course!
John 14:15-17, 26
15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you…26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
“We are 100 percent responsible for the pursuit of holiness, but at the same time we are 100 percent dependent upon the Holy Spirit to enable us in that pursuit. The pursuit of holiness is not a pull-yourself-up-by-your-own-bootstraps approach to the Christian life….Sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit in us whereby our inner being is progressively changed, freeing us more and more from sinful traits, and developing within us, over time, the virtues of Christlike character.” ~ Jerry Bridges
