We look at ourselves in a mirror multiple times on a daily basis.  Why?  Because we want to look our best before being seen by others.  If your reflection in the mirror reveals something out of place or something that needs to be removed, you “fix” it…you don’t just leave it.  The Bible is like a mirror…God’s mirror.  We look into it…we read it…we study it…and God shows us a true reflection of ourselves and, more often than not, there are things we need to correct.  We must not just walk away and disregard what we need to “fix” because the God of the Word has revealed it to us and He wants us to reflect His righteousness…before Him, and before all men, for His glory.

James 1:21-25

21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the Word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22 But prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect Law, the Law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

“Few men truly know themselves as they really are. Most people have seen themselves in a looking-glass, but there is another looking-glass, which gives true reflections, into which few men look. To study one’s self in the light of God’s Word, and carefully to go over one’s condition, examining both the inward and the outward sins, and using all the tests which are given us in the Scriptures, would be a very healthy exercise; but how very few care to go through it!” ~ C.H. Spurgeon
