Driving along the Wabash River is a daily thing for me.  As you look to the river bank on the opposite side, you can see places that the waters have washed away the soil over many many years, exposing the roots systems of some gigantic old-growth trees.  What can be seen below the level of the ground is massive, and bears testimony as to why what we see above the ground is so immense and healthy…a result of the constant supply of liquid nourishment provided by the mighty Wabash.  Those trees planted by that river are God’s picture of what we can be like spiritually, in Christ…productive, fruitful, and prosperous, as long as our root system is firmly planted by the nourishing river of God’s Word.

Psalm 1:2-3

2 But [the blessed person’s] delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

“A tree by a river has a continual source of water. It will never wither away, because it is always getting what it needs. If we are constantly needy, it may be worth examining if we are planted by the rivers of water or

not.” ~ David Guzik

The Lord bless you and keep you…
