The Apostle Paul, wrote to the Galatian believers that the indwelling Holy Spirit would produce His “fruit” in them if they would submissively live in obedience to Him. There are nine aspects of this “fruit,” but the list is started with “love.” D. L. Moody believed that “love” came first because “love” vitally impacts the other eight. Consider his thoughts quoted below. Truly…as Paul told the Corinthians, “the greatest of these is love!” Therefore, “let us love one another, for love is from God (1 John 4:7).”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13

4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails…13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

“Joy is love exalted; peace is love in response; long-suffering is love enduring; gentleness is love in society; goodness is love in action; faithfulness is love on the battlefield; meekness is love in tough situations; and temperance is love in training.” ~ Dwight L. Moody
