The “dog days” of summer are pretty much in the rear view mirror, but we had some really hot days, with temps in the triple digits, in the recent past. On those days, nothing was more satisfying than a cold drink of water. Jesus used the subject of “thirst” and “water” in a conversation with a woman as they were standing by a well one day…used it to point her to Himself as the only one who could truly satisfy her spiritual thirst…forever. Only Jesus is our continuous Source of that life-giving water. No one and nothing else can satisfy that “thirst”…only Jesus!
John 4:13-14
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
“I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame,
And nothing satisfying there I found;
But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came,
Where springs of living water did abound!
Drinking at the springs of living water,
