When a person comes to Jesus Christ, by faith, for salvation, that person is in for a definite change.  Believers are transferred from the Kingdom of darkness and sin, to His glorious kingdom of salvation and light. In it’s basic essence, salvation is being washed and cleansed from sin by Jesus, Himself, as He brings the Word of God to bear in our lives.  As Rufus McDaniel put it, in the lyrics of the old hymn: “What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought, since Jesus came into my heart…and my sins, which were many were all washed away, since Jesus came into my heart!”

Ephesians 5:25-27

25…Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.

“Jesus, like any good fisherman, first catches the fish; then He cleans them.” ~ Mark Potter
