A question for the followers of Jesus:  As you watched the surreal scenes unfold before your eyes yesterday afternoon, how did you personally respond.  Did you pray?  Had you prayed earlier in the day?  It hasn’t been all that long ago that I wrote about this subject, but yesterday’s horrific events in our nation’s capital brings the need for prayer for our leaders screaming to the surface so that none could possibly miss it. Yesterday’s events involving all of our nation’s leaders should have been covered by the prayers of believers of the one, true God.  Were they?  Today, they should be too.  Will they be?  Why?  Because God says they should…and that is reason enough.

1 Timothy 2:1-3

1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.

“We should take more seriously our responsibility to pray for the leaders of our government that they will make wise decisions. Although we may suspect that some of the more disastrous decisions are evidence of God’s judgment, we do not know that. We do know God has instructed us to pray for leaders. Our duty, then, is to pray for wise decisions, [and to trust in God for the outcome, no matter what the decisions.]” ~ Jerry Bridges

The Lord bless you and keep you…
