Having been born in the 1950s, I have a foggy remembrance of small signs on buildings around town pointing out the location of “Fall-Out Shelters.”  These “reinforced rooms” were built out of fear of a sudden, surprise nuclear attack during the “Cold War.”  If a certain siren were to sound, then you were to run to the nearest shelter.  Right now, we’re “sheltering” at home…trying to escape a different enemy…an invisible one.  In reality, there is only one, true, sovereign Shelter in Whom we can, should, and must place our trust from whatever threatens us.

Psalm 91:1-6

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” 3 For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. 5 You will not be afraid of the terror by night, Or of the arrow that flies by day; 6 Of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, Or of the destruction that lays waste at noon.

“We all experience some heart-pounding moments in life, but the Most High is always there to afford us peace and protection. God’s children have a safe and secure refuge under the shadow of the Almighty.” ~ David Jeremiah
