Weekend Perspective

Dear Peru Grace Brethren family and friends…

We’re experiencing living under the rule of governing authorities like no other time in our American history during these recent days. About this, God has clearly spoken.

Romans, chapter 13, starts by stating that, “Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.”  Now, sometimes, as we observe the leadership that has been established at various levels around us, we are tempted to wonder what God is doing.  But the following story should be an encouragement to us that, no matter of what quality the authorities may be, God can do anything with them…like this man…

He was an habitual drunkard and rumored to be addicted to other vices which could not be mentioned in public.  As king of England, he married off his children like pawns to suit his foreign policy.  He drained the royal treasury to meet the cost of his extravagances in wine and women.  Un-kingly in almost every respect, he was described like this: “His big head, his slobbering tongue, his quilted clothes, his rickety legs, his goggle eyes, stood out as a grotesque contrast with all that men recalled of Henry and Elizabeth as his gabble, his want of personal dignity, his coarse buffoonery, his drunkenness, his pedantry, his contemptible cowardice.”  Yet God, in His overruling providence, used this man to assemble great scholars and push through The Authorized English Translation of the Bible in 1611 AD — commonly referred to as the “King James Version”…the most influential Bible translation of all time.  His name: King James the First.

Beloved…always remember…”The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He wishes.” (Proverbs 21:1).

Let us also remember to obey these words of the Apostle Paul…“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority…” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).  Pray for them…ALL of them…not only in times like these…but in ALL times!

May God richly bless you all!
