Philippians 2:3-5

3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus…

To put yourself, your desires, your interests…what you think you need…before (ahead of) the interests of others, is to put yourself before, and above, your God who gave you this command…and that is sinful disobedience.  And remember…Jesus (who is God) put your needs first…and died so that you could have eternal life, which none of us deserves.
